For ever, we have been debating over which hardscape surface to use for our driveway, walkways, patios, pool decks, and all other applications for the exterior & interior of our homes. The undeniable fact that independent paving systems are much more reliable then concrete, asphalt, and gravel surfaces, leads us then to decide, – ” well what of the many paver options should i consider!”
There are limitless interlocking brick, cobblestone, and other natural stone paving options that now exist. Therefore we would like to introduce the latest trend in square-cut pavers! Over the past few years, we have seen an influx of many imported pavers, offering many unique textures, colours, and sizes that allowed the industry some new flexibility in design option. Lets take a moment to review the many benefits of square cut paving options!
- CLASSIC & ELEGANT – The larger square cut paving patterns and style was very popular for estates, stone homes, formal landscapes, and on higher-end landscape projects many many years ago. Between 1990-2015 we seen a large movement of interlocking brick infiltrating our landscape industry due to extremely lower prices per square foot, and colour options. However, now that production is up, and we have more imported options, square foot pricing has dropped, making the square-cut an affordable choice, and classic compliment to any design!
SPEED OF INSTALLATION – They are just fast to install! Sizes ranging from 12″x12″ – 24″x36″, its easy to understand how fast and easy a square cut paving pattern will install compared to most interlocking options with an average of 5″x9″ in size.
- COST – previously all options ranged between $12-16 per square foot, yet we now have a fleet of colour options between $6-8, and many beautiful domestic items between $9.99-14!
- COLOUR – we offer more then 25 colour options in stock, and we have access to a range of other unique colours. Between the domestic & imported product options theres endless colour options to match your existing home and landscape!
TEXTURE – Manufacturers have been flirting with
to offer more then just the traditional, yet beautiful, natural finish. Nowadays we have the natural finish paver, flame finish (which offers a smoother texture and often enriches the veins), sandblast finish (which is smooth and dulls out the veins and other tones), power-blast (that almost mimics the sandblast approach yet has its own unique and subtle outcome), honed (which is partially polished), polished (bringing out all of the veins and colours, and offers a sleek surface), sawn cut (which is unfinished looking, yet meets some clients requirements), bush-hammered (a pebble textured top), etc etc etc.
CONTEMPORARY – Linear lines, larger pavers, less joints and seems – its easy to build a contemporary design using natural square cut options! Check out this photo as evidence!
PRACTICALITY – Due to the size of natural square cut paving stones, you simply have less joints within each independent unit. This means there are less trip hazards, or crevices where the legs of chairs or tables can get stuck on when sliding them on the patio surface. Kids have an easier time moving their toys around, and you have less opportunity for weeds pushing through the surface as their are less gaps available 🙂
- TRENDING – Architects & designers are speccing this stone option more and more. We have seen the trend building for the past 4 years, and we expect that 2018 will bite even harder at this product category. When doing your shopping, be sure to check out both imported and domestic natural square cut paving options, as their is sure to be something that will compliments your home and meet your design flare!
